Wintry Mix

We're experiencing the coldest winter in Dublin in 18 years, which compared to Minnesota is still not very cold. But for Dubliners and Austinites, it's very wintry. [Some perspective: I grew up in Houston and thought water frozen in a ditch was amazing.] We've had a couple hard freezes reaching 27°F, and several days of wintry precip. Unfortunately, the periods of lovely snow have been followed by ugly sleet/hail/rain. My commute home Tuesday night was particularly unpleasant in cold slush. Bill had left work early in heavy snowfall, but it turned to rain by the time he reached Raheny. He did see a rainbow though.

Thursday saw some accumulation in Raheny, which has been sticking around in the shady spots. Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny Saturday, and we took a walk in St. Anne's.

Today we woke up to another pretty snowfall. We snapped some photos off the balcony and on the way to church. Of course, it had turned to rain by the time we left church.

19th Century St. Assam's church in Raheny centre. The church has been used only sporadically in the last decade. Plans were announced last year for credit union offices to occupy the building.

No more snow is forecast.

I enjoyed the pretty pictures. Our weather has turned from freezing cold to 70 degrees. It was beautiful today.

Sharon and Chris were deprived of snow, Ice and hills in their formative years in Dickinson, Texas. We had a 2-inch snow in the winter of 1973-74 and we all took off work and played in it. Chris had baggies on his shoes as he toddled through the snow. That was the last snow, probably, until we moved to Birmingham in 1984, except when we caught some on our frequent trips to Arkansas.

Sharon, I hope you don't have to walk through too much slush going to and back from the DART stations.

Hi there!

I'm still jealous of your Ireland adventure. But I must tell you we haven't had many days above freezing here in ND/MN for so long I have kind of forgot what it feels like to be warm outside! Hope you are doing well and take care!! Donnette

Hey, Donnette! I guess we've both had unusual winters this year. I'm hoping that it will lead to an early, vibrant spring for both of us. The trees are already budding out and the bulbs are coming up.

We are well here. Hope all is well with you, too. Maybe you'll be able to come back to Ireland soon?
